Tough Luck for McCarthy to End 2006 Season

Concord, NC 10/24/06- Joey McCarthy and the Beach Club Ices Chevy Monte Carlo did not have luck on their side for the 2006 NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown. After cutting down two tires under green the result was the first time that McCarthy finished outside the top ten in any race at the Irwindale Speedway in which he has competed in.

After starting 10th for the qualifying race on Friday McCarthy was able to only muster a 6th place finish to set the stage for an 11th place starting spot on Saturday for the weekend’s main event. “The Beach Club Ices/Freedom Grill Chevy Monte Carlo just wasn’t handling the way we wanted it to. I wasn’t able to run the bottom as I had in years pass and that kind of hurt us,” said McCarthy after Friday’s qualifying race. On Saturday the super bowl of short track racing was to be held with $303,000 in prize money on the line. The night started off good for McCarthy taking the green flag from the 11th starting position and quickly gaining a couple positions in the early running, but then the Beach Club Ices team started to gradually fall back.

“I knew something was the matter because the car just wouldn’t respond, I road around as long as I could until I was able to figure out what it was. We must have ran over something out on the track because, both right side tires were flat. We came in changed both right side tires under green and that just killed us and put us three laps down. I just got thank Jody Helfend at Beach Club Ices, Freedom Grill, and this whole STI Motorsports team, they have worked hard all season,” stated McCarthy.

With the 2006 racing season coming to an end, Joey McCarthy’s 2007 season plans are unsure at this point. “I really am not sure what the future holds for me at this point, I am looking at my options for next season, I plan to take this week off then I will be actively looking to see what’s out there,” added McCarthy.
