NEWTON, Iowa - Brian Ickler picked up the biggest win of his career Sunday afternoon at Iowa Speedway.
Ickler out ran Joe Gibbs Racing development driver Marc Davis and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kasey Kahne to win the US Cellular 200.
The 22-year-old Ickler raced in the NASCAR Camping World Series West the last two season and won three times. This year, he is running a full season in the NASCAR Camping World Series East. Sunday’s race is the only time the two series, which represent the top developmental step for NASCAR’s regional touring series, meet during the season with points on the line.
Davis, whose JGR teammate Joey Logano won the race last year, held off Kahne for second place. Kahne was running in the event less than 24 hours after winning the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Challenge at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C.
Ickler led the final 16 laps after working his way past Davis, who led the most laps at 57. There were 13 lead changes among eight drivers.
Eighteen-year-old Austin Dillon, Richard Childress’ grandson, won his first Coors Light Pole Award in his second career start.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 20, 2008) – NASCAR announced today that the unofficial results of Sunday’s NASCAR Camping World Series race at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa have been revised due to a rules violations discovered during post-race inspection of the second place car – the No. 18 driven by Marc Davis.
The No. 18 car was found to be in violation of Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used do not conform to NASCAR rules); 20C-8.4C (lubrication oil reservoir tank cover was not in place on the top of the lubrication oil reservoir tank encasement) and 20C-2.1O (any device or duct work that permits air to pass from one area of the interior of the car to another, or to the outside of the car, will not be permitted. This includes, but is not limited to, the inside of the car to the trunk area, or the floors, firewalls, crush panels and wheel wells passing air into or out of the car) of the 2008 NASCAR rule book. The violations was discovered during post race inspection on May 18.
The rule violations dropped Davis to 44th in the official race finish. All other drivers in the event moved up one position in the official finishing order.
