Sellers Suffers Mechanical Woes Late in Race at Loudon

Loudon, NH: Sometimes everything goes right during a race, other times things go wrong. The odds finally caught up with Peyton Sellers and the #44 Casella Waste Systems Chevrolet this weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

After a practice round that saw Sellers 6th fastest, an unrelenting rain caused the cancellation of qualifying. Teams qualified based on points, putting Sellers in 14th for the start on Friday in the Camping World East Series Heluva Good! Summer 125. Sellers was able to move into the top ten quickly, managing pit stops to maintain a competitive position in the race.

On lap 97, the fuel pump went out, and the car was pushed onto pit road for repairs, putting the team several laps down for the finish. Sellers finished 29th in the field of 36 drivers.

“It’s just the way the sport goes sometimes”, said Sellers. “Everybody does everything they can before and during the race. The team responded quickly, but with a problem like that you just don’t bounce back onto the same lap. It put us back in the points a bit, but we’ve got what we need to be a top five consistently.” Sellers only dropped back two positions in the overall series standings, and is now 16th among 60 drivers.

Earlier in the week, Sellers appeared at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. SkillsUSA is one of the country’s largest student non-profit organizations, boasting over 300,000 members and 9.3 million alumni. SkillsUSA students benefit from an enhanced curriculum in their chosen field with an emphasis on added leadership skills, ethics, communication, citizenship, and teamwork. The team has had a partnership with SkillsUSA since 2007, appearing at student events and promoting the organization at all of the races.

Sellers is sponsored by Casella Waste Systems and Specialty Fertilizer Products. The team will return to racing action at Thompson Motor Speedway in Thompson, CT on July 12th. The race will be broadcast live on HDNet and tape delayed on SPEED Channel’s Racing Across America segment. Check your local listings for full details.
