Unbelieveable Performance For The #15 Ickler Motorsports Team @ Loudon, New Hampshire
Nothing but the Facts:
Thursday
- Qualifying and practice for Thursday was rained out. Brian Ickler will start on the outside of row one determined by owners points.
Friday
- With approximately 30 laps of practice (1st time seeing the Magic Mile) Ickler was third fastest.
- With five minutes remaining in practice the #15 Chevrolet lost a radiator cap, spraying water underneath the car, lost grip going into turn three and tagged the wall.
- The #15 back up car was unloaded, taking almost (5) hours to change key components between cars, set-up and go through NASCAR tech.
- Ickler will now start at the rear of field in the 36th position in a car that has never been on the track.
- With great driving and pit strategy Ickler took the lead @ lap 70.
- Ickler led for 34 laps until lap 101 when a caution came out.
- On the restart the #55 car took the #15 and #11 car three wide going into turn one. The #55 car shot up the track and the #15 drove underneath him coming out of turn two….. The #55 got loose and spun.
- Video was inconclusive as to if the #15 & #55 actually had contact, however the #15 was sent to the back for aggressive driving that effected the #55 car. (Two time East Series Champion, Brad Leighton)
- With Ickler starting in the back, the stage was set for the finish with (2) Dale Earnhardt Incorporated cars, (1) Joe Gibbs Racing car, (1) Kenny Schrader Racing car, (1) Team Dillon Racing/RCR car, and the #40 car starting in the front 3 rows. (Eventual winner Eddie MacDonald was in row 4….his 15th start at the Magic Mile)
- The race restarted on lap 107. In Twenty laps, including a green white checkered finish, Ickler passed 21 cars to finish 10th.
- The #15 car was picked for a random post race inspection. The #15 teams marathon day was completed with the engine, carburetor, and various components sent to the NASCAR R&D Center in North Carolina.
- Several drivers & team owners congratulated Ickler for the strongest performance of the night….coming from the back (twice), leading 34 laps, losing the lead on a judgment call, improving his on track position 57 times (mostly by racing hard & some by great pit strategy.) Many thought this was a greater accomplishment for the #15 team than the 2008 wins at Iowa Speedway and South Boston.
- Special thanks to the #15 Team, which includes Joe Shear, Steve Graham, Jim Ellison, AJ Wasson, Brian Anderson, Bryan Brown, Paul Foley, Kyle Compton, Jeff Woods, John Stewart, and all the after hours friends at the shop.
QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“Four wide…..you’re on the bottom…..clear….clear all around…..great job.”
- Bryan Brown, spotter for the #15 Ickler Motorsports Chevrolet -
