Delaney Finishes Strong At NHMS With Top-15

Loudon, NH (June 28, 2008): Dustin Delaney continued to improve on his performances this week by posting an 11th place finish in the Heluva Good Summer 125 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, a NASCAR Camping World Series East event. Delaney, making his debut on the series biggest oval, came from an 18th place starting position.

“We should have been ninth, but Ickler drove in a little hard on that last restart and we didn’t want to push the issue. I let him go by. I’m real happy,” he said. “This is the biggest track I’ve been on so it took me a little while to get used to: the speed going down the backstretch, and how much brake to use going into the corners. Once we got some practice in and was able to get behind somebody and just put in some laps I was good.”

Delaney maintained 15th place after the drop of the green until the yellow flew at lap 22. Instead of pitting, Delaney opted to stay out and gain valuable track position. Because of rain, the event started later than its scheduled time, and there was a risk of running out of daylight.

“We gambled, but we weren’t prepared to come in on that first caution. We wanted to wait it out a little to see how things progressed,” Delaney said.

The #39 Delaney Infrastructure/Quad Graphics Chevrolet restarted the race in sixth at lap 27 and held his own in the top-10 until the caution flew again at lap 35. This time, the team decided to come in for an adjustment.

“The car was real tight so we talked about it and decided to come in, get some fuel, and make an adjustment,” said Delaney.

Delaney restarted the race in 20th on lap 41, but another pit stop was neeed. When the caution flew on lap 65, Delaney came in again.

The second half of the race was about making up lost ground. Delaney patiently moved his way up, making it up to 12th for the final green-white-checker restart. Delaney admits that final restart made him a little nervous.

“Every race we’ve been to it has had a green-white-checker finish so far, and every race we’ve been in with a green-white-checker, we’ve wrecked. We got through it and it was hairy. Everybody was scrambling for that one last position so you’re either going in the wall or you’re getting that one last position. It turned out all right tonight though.”

Delaney’s 11th place finish is his career-best NASCAR Camping World Series finish to date – a trend that the young driver has been continuing week to week.

“Since Iowa we’ve been getting better week-in and week out,” said Delaney. “It’s such a team effort, and we’re building a chemistry here. We’re pretty happy with how that’s going. Everyone is working well together.”
