Sellers Performance Dampened at Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen, NY: It was a long weekend for Peyton Sellers and his Andy Santerre Motorsports Team. It started with practice Friday, followed by qualifying on Saturday, and a race which was then held on Sunday at Watkins Glen International. The race was the first of two road course events on the Camping World East Series schedule this year, and it was one which left the #44 Casella Waste Systems Chevrolet team wishing for the proverbial “mulligan.” Sellers finished 18th in the field of 28 cars, and is now 14th overall in the series standings.

“The car just wasn’t dialed in like it needed to be”, said Sellers. “We made adjustments that we had to live with until we had enough cautions to work on it to get it right. The team did a great job, finally the car was a whole lot better and I felt real good about it.” However, Sellers was shortly thereafter caught up in a wreck taking down a tire and putting the former Dodge Weekly Racing Series National Champion a lap down. Nineteen of the race’s 55 laps on the 2.45 mile road course were run under caution.

“We were probably a top ten car today, but we had a couple of things catch us. It was a fun course to drive – just wish we could go back and do some things differently.” The weather was a challenge for all the drivers during the day as well, with rain that delayed the race more than once.

Sellers, though 14th in the overall standings among 53 drivers, is only 21 points out of the top ten, closely bunched with a group of other drivers. “One good race will have us right back in the top five or six”, said HC Sellers, the team’s respected crew chief who will return to his brother’s side in the pit area for the next race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH on Friday, June 27th.

Prior to the race, Sellers will be attending the 2008 SkillsUSA Week of Champions in Kansas City, Missouri. SkillsUSA is one of the country’s largest student non-profit organizations, boasting over 300,000 members and 9.3 million alumni. SkillsUSA students benefit from an enhanced curriculum in their chosen field with an emphasis on added leadership skills, ethics, communication, citizenship, and teamwork.

The Kansas City Championships will be attended by more than 15,000 students who have competed in their chosen discipline at the local and state levels. “It was a life-changing experience when we attended last year”, said Sellers. “These are the future leaders of America’s skilled workforce. I’m glad the students are so excited about our involvement. We look forward to the opportunities this partnership can also afford our sponsors, and that our sponsors can in turn provide to the students.” Sellers will appear at the opening ceremony, and throughout the week at various autograph sessions.

Sellers is sponsored by Casella Waste Systems and Specialty Fertilizer Products. The team will return to racing action at the “Heluva Good Summer 125”, at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire June 27th. The race will be broadcast live on HDNet and shown again on SPEED Channel’s Racing Across America 2008 on July 16 at 1:00 PM/EST.
