Blown Engine Cuts Day Short For Dumarey And Fadden Racing
“We had a top-three car,” said Dumarey. “It’s really too bad, but some things are just out of your control. This course was tough on a lot of engines here this weekend, and unfortunately, we were one of the teams to be afflicted. We had a solid run going the entire race and I was just saving my stuff for the end.” Dumarey qualified third for race with a lap of 118.055 mph (1:14.711). “I think our guys did a good effort on the car, so I’m glad with it,” Dumarey said after qualifying. “It’s great to be here (at Watkins Glen) and it’s a great series. I think starting position is very important because you don’t want to be in the back where all the wrecks will happen. This is a good place to be.” Dumarey ran in third through the first 16 circuits before giving up his track position to come into the pits. He re-entered the race in 14th and worked his way up to fourth before the red flag was given for heavy rains, thunder, and lightening. The event was stopped two hours to allow the track to dry. On the restart, Steve Park drove under Dumarey’s Bodycoach.net Chevrolet to pass him. The two were side-by-side and contact was made before entering turn one. “I had passed him before that and I guess he didn’t like it,” said Dumarey. “He nearly put me in the wall to get by me.” A long green flag run ensued and Dumarey was hitting his marks. By lap 41, Dumarey had regained the fourth position and was on the move. It all came to a halt, however, at lap 49. “We were two laps from the end,” said Dumarey. “Two laps! That’s what is so frustrating about it. We were a top-five car all day and we’re packing up a 21st place finish. It just doesn’t show how strong we were.” Dumarey heads to Infineon Raceway to compete in the Bennett Lane Winery 200, presented by Supercuts, a NASCAR Camping World Series West race on June 21st.
