Delaney Survives South Boston With 19th Place Finish

South Boston, VA (June 1, 2008): Dustin Delaney, driver of the #39 Delaney Infrastructure Chevrolet, certainly didn’t go looking for trouble at South Boston Speedway Saturday night, but trouble found him. Fifteen cautions defined the Strutmasters.com 150, a NASCAR Camping World Series event, with Delaney being involved in two of them, including a 16-car pileup at lap 128.

“We were coming up through the pack and then we got in those first couple of mishaps there. I think we were in every caution – at least it felt that way. It just seemed as if every time we got going we’d get caught up in another wreck,” said Delaney.

Delaney started 28th after posting a qualifying lap of 16.595 seconds. He knew patience was going to be key to a solid finish at the tough ˝-mile oval. Delaney methodically worked his way through the field despite some minor incidents in the first half of the race. The real problem came at lap 128 when Delaney got caught up in the “big one” – a 16-car pile-up in turn three.

“The radiator got all crushed in,” explained Delaney. “But my crew thrashed and got me back out. I was able to stay on the lead lap. This crew works really hard and they deserve a lot of credit for this finish tonight. We could have easily gone down a lap or two with that radiator problem.”

In preparation for the event, Delaney tested at White Mountain Motorsports Park in New Hampshire, a track that has similar characteristics to South Boston Speedway. Delaney felt comfortable, and the results paid off. Delaney finished the Strutmasters.com 150 with a 19th place finish despite his involvement in the late-race wreck.

“That’s racing. Sometimes you can’t avoid everything. Sometimes it’s out of your control. I got a lot of seat time tonight and we’re happy with that. As long as we keep moving forward we’re happy. The finishes will come. Right now, I just want to learn everything I can.”

Delaney is anxious to hit the road course venues when the series takes to the 2.45-mile road course at Watkins Glen International on Sunday, June 8th.
