Home Still Sweet for Sellers – Takes Third in Caution-Filled SoBo Race
After a fast practice in the morning, Sellers posted a lower than expected qualifying position – eleventh in the field of 33 cars. “We’ve got a bit of a hole to dig out of tonight”, he said over the radio to his team, “but I’m going to give her everything I can. We’ve got 150 laps to get there, so let’s see how she does.” The .40 mile track was familiar territory to Sellers, who advanced to 5th place by lap 59 and was able to stay out of trouble during a race that involved 15 separate cautions covering 77 laps. On lap 103, Sellers took third position, and then took over second place briefly with only a handful of laps to go. The final yellow flag of the night flew, and NASCAR officials put Sellers back to fourth for the final restart. “I tried to make something happen there at the end, but anytime you can get a good points finish and get your car out of there clean, it’s a good night.” Sellers is now tied for 12th in the series overall points standings, with 10 of 13 races remaining. The next race in the Camping World East Series is a 2.45 mile road course race at Watkins Glen International this Sunday. “We’re well prepared for the road course, and are looking forward to running strong with the Casella Waste Systems Chevrolet there next weekend. Casella Waste Systems, a progressive Vermont-based solid waste and recycling company, is sponsoring six races this season. Other major sponsors include Kansas City based Specialty Fertilizer Products who will be sponsoring upcoming races at Mansfield and Dover. The team also has a partnership with SkillsUSA, a national student non-profit organization that supports students entering skilled and technical trades. The Watkins Glen race will be broadcast tape delayed on SPEED Channel. Check your local listings. |
