Cattanach makes most of first East Series start, finishes 19th

Mooresville, NC – 23 year-old Kyle Cattanach survived a late race crash to bring the SumSeeds Chevrolet home 19th, in his NASCAR Camping World Series East debut at Greenville Pickens Speedway in Easley, SC on Saturday night.

Cattanach gained valuable experience in just his fifth career Grand National start, and first start for Spraker Racing Enterprises.

Despite wet weather that limited practice, and it being Cattanach’s first laps on the fast half-mile oval, Cattanach was able to run as high as twelfth before recording the 19th place finish.

A spring problem in practice left Cattanach 29th on the charts out of 40 teams. Cattanach was one of four drivers in the race with no prior testing or racing at Greenville, and one of 18 series rookies in attendance.

The team struggled with a persistent tightness on the car, but were able to qualify 23rd and make the race on time. Seven rookies failed to make the 150 lap feature.

Cattanach moved his way forward to the 12th position, but began to fall backwards with worn tires and difficult handling.

Two incidents relegated Cattanach to a 19th place finish, but it was an exciting first start for the young driver.

On a race-by-race program with Spraker Racing Enterprises, Cattanach was able to make a big impression on his team and crew chief.

SumSeeds Energized Sunflower Seeds samples were handed out to fans, and the logo adorned the #37 Chevrolet before the crowd of well over 8,000. The race will also be shown in tape-delay on SPEED May 7th at Noon EST.
