MacDonald Takes Checkered Flag at New Hampshire
Eddie MacDonald reached Victory Lane for the first time in 16 NASCAR Camping World Series East career starts at New Hampshire Motor Speedway Friday evening in the Heluva Good! Summer 125. MacDonald and Trevor Bayne traded the lead several times down the stretch before the final caution came out on lap 122. On the ensuing restart MacDonald got the jump on Bayne to pull away for the win by half a second. Bayne wound up as the runner-up, followed by Matt Kobyluck. Rookies Austin Dillon and Ricky Carmichael registered top-five finishes in their first race at New Hampshire.
Kobyluck Aces “Overtime” Watkins Glen Shootout
Matt Kobyluck won his first NASCAR Camping World Series East race at Watkins Glen International Sunday afternoon. Kobyluck led the final two laps in the series first trip to The Glen since 2004. Kobyluck’s previous best finish at the 2.45-mile road course was fourth. A green-white-checkered finish necessitated by a late-race blown engine and stretched the race from its scheduled 51 laps to 55.
Ickler Wins South Boston To Make It Two In A Row, Tech Issues Dismissed
West coast transplant Brian Ickler charged to his second consecutive NASCAR Camping World Series East victory Saturday night at South Boston Speedway. Ickler, 22, of San Diego, Calif., led a dominant 149 laps of the Strutmasters.com 150. He then held off bids from runner-up Austin Dillon of Lewisville, N.C., and third-place Peyton Sellers of Danville, Va., through a late race caution that extended the event to 155 laps.
Brian Ickler Wins Iowa After Late-Race Pass
Brian Ickler picked up the biggest win of his career Sunday afternoon at Iowa Speedway. Ickler out ran Joe Gibbs Racing development driver Marc Davis and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kasey Kahne to win the US Cellular 200. The 22-year-old Ickler raced in the NASCAR Camping World Series West the last two season and won three times. This year, he is running a full season in the NASCAR Camping World Series East. Sunday’s race is the only time the two series, which represent the top developmental step for NASCAR’s regional touring series, meet during the season with points on the line.
